What is coaching?

According to the International Coach Federation “professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach’s job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources and creativity that the client already has.”

Coaching is

  • a process designed to effect change
  • a relationship that supports change and
  • a shared journey

The client’s own creativity and resourcefulness is fully engaged throughout the process. Because of the supportive nature of the relationship, new energy emerges. That energy acts as a catalyst to produce results and helps clients to achieve or surpass goals, or develop untapped talents and potential.

"Even if you're on the
right track, you'll get
run over if you just
sit there."

Why hire a coach?

For Bob Nardelli, CEO of Home Depot, the answer is clear: Nardelli says, “I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.”

People hire coaches to

  • assess interests, talents and needs
  • discover untapped potential
  • set and achieve goals and speed progress
  • meet challenges and solve problems
  • gain a new perspective or find clarity and focus

Coaching allows clients to achieve success within a structured and purposeful design. The coaching relationship streamlines success and offers a competitive edge. Because coaching accelerates progress, more time may be freed up for the client to enjoy a higher quality of life.

The evidence is growing around the value of coaching and the strong return on the investment from coaching. According to the HR Monthly Magazine, “recent studies show business coaching and executive coaching to be the most effective means for achieving sustainable growth, change and development in the individual, group and organization.”

Another study by International Personnel Management Association, (IPMA) found that

  • Stand alone training changed behaviors by 22.4%
  • Training with follow-up coaching changed behaviors by 88% for increased productivity.

How does coaching work?

One to one coaching takes place in person or by telephone appointments. In person appointments are scheduled and usually last for one hour. Telephone appointments are scheduled three times a month during 30-minute calls.

Group coaching involves six to eight people on a call. Participants benefit from the shared knowledge and the group energy. A bridge line is used for the call and requires a long distance phone call. Pre-paid long distance phone cards reduce the expense of the calls, or you may dial direct.

Through a series of inquiries and assessments, you and your coach will explore your needs and target some goals. Through the coaching process you will discover your own capacity for igniting and sustaining change and achieving your goals.

Individual and Group Coaching is available as

  • Telephone Appointments
  • In person coaching
  • On- site coaching
